Prof. Areti Lagiou is an elected Member of the Board of Trustees of the University of West Attica. She is Professor of Epidemiology, Cancer Prevention and Public Health. She is the Head of the Laboratory of Hygiene and Epidemiology, Department of Public and Community Health, School of Public Health, West Attica University. Dr Lagiou holds a Master’s and a PhD degree in Epidemiology and Population Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London, UK. She has extensive teaching experience in the fields of Epidemiology, Public Health and chronic non-communicable disease prevention as well as Health Promotion. She has extensive research experience, both as principal investigator as well as core research group member in several national and international research projects. Up to December 2026, she has published more than 117 scientific papers, which are devalued in the major Scientific Data Base PubMed, and has co-authored chapters in international textbooks. Her research work is cited more than 6.918 times in the international literature and she has an h-index of 42. She has served in academic posts of high administrative responsibility such as 3 tenures as Chair of the Dept. of Public and Community Health, Vice Dean of the School of Public Health, as well as member of many University Committees for Academic and Research Issues.
