Dr. Samaila Musa Chiroma is a Senior Lecturer in Anatomy at Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed). He holds a PhD in Human Anatomy (Neuroscience) from Universiti Putra Malaysia and Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Human Anatomy from University of Maiduguri, Nigeria. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from Newcastle University, United Kingdom.
Dr. Chiroma’s research centers on neurodegenerative and neurobehavioral disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and depression. His work particularly investigates the neuroprotective potential of medicinal plants and plant-derived compounds. Using molecular, histological, and behavioral approaches, his research explores mechanisms related to oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, neurotransmitter dysregulation, and cognitive impairment.
He has held academic and postdoctoral research appointments in Nigeria and Malaysia and has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals. His ongoing research advances translational approaches in neurotherapeutics, with a focus on plant-based interventions for epilepsy and neurodegeneration.
